Fluoride Free Water  – The Great Debate Rages On

As the fluoridated water debate continues, let’s take a good look at some compelling reasons to avoid using fluoride treated water.

The pros far outweigh the cons when it comes to choosing fluoride free water over most of the city tap water available in the United States.

This article aims to point out just a few of the short term and long term health effects of fluoridated water.

The Health Dangers of Fluoridated Water

The health concerns related to fluoridating water are many, including obesity, arthritis, bone cancer and other skeletal diseases, and it affects the thyroid and pineal glands, affecting hormone regulation.

Safe Dosages of Fluoride

What is an acceptable level of fluoride?

You can never really be sure of getting safe levels of fluoride in drinking water because it’s impossible to regulate the dosages due to the fact that people drink various amounts of water on a daily basis. It also affects different people in different ways, depending on the amount consumed.

Basically you have a toxic drug that is being dispensed with no guarantee of the dosage taken per person, let alone the safety of the drug even in small amounts. Also factor in the fluoride found in food and other drinks such as tea, and you can begin to see a problem.

7  Things You Should Know About Fluoridated Water

1. Signs you may be suffering from acute fluoride poisoning:

Symptoms of fluoride poisoning include increased salivation and/or thirst, headaches, fatigue, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Symptoms usually start about 30 minutes after intake and can last up to 24 hours. The most common instances of acute fluoride poisoning are centered around swallowing a bunch of toothpaste.

2. Long term effects of over exposure to fluoride:

Long term effects of too much fluoride have been linked to cancer, birth defects, perinatal death, skeletal fluorosis, osteoarthritis, and suppression of the thyroid gland and immune systems. It has also been shown to calcify in the tissues of the brain’s pineal gland, causing even more problems. Over exposure to fluoride before the age of 8, when teeth are developing, causes dental fluorosis, a discoloration or mottling of the permanent teeth.

One of the most disturbing aspects of over fluoridation are the long term effects, and this is for 2 reasons. The first being that by the time the symptoms have shown up years or even decades later, it is too late to do much about it. The second being that the medical and dental communities have refused to look at the overwhelming evidence of the physical damage it causes as anything more than anecdotal. Try telling that to someone stooped over and crippled due to fluorosis or osteo, or has to grow up with discolored and mottled teeth.

3. What are safe levels of fluoride?

Ground water is considered naturally fluoridated when the  levels are greater than 0.7 parts per million (ppm). Most water fluoridation systems aim for 0.7 to 1.2 ppm. Some advocate raising that level to 4 to 6 ppm. My opinion is that any fluoride that is added to water is too much.

4. The ethical and legal issues of water fluoridation:

Legally speaking, what we have here is a drug being dispensed to the population without a prescription. Add to that the fact that you cannot regulate intake dosage due to the simple fact that some people drink more water than others, and you have a system that is out of control. Since when is it okay to force a drug on an unsuspecting public without their consent. This is the same drug that Hitler used on the Jews to keep them tamed down and docile.

5. Ways to avoid fluoride in your daily life:

This is a tough one. Not only is fluoride in most public water systems, it is in a lot of the processed food and beverages we consume, including beer, soda and some teas. The best thing to do is to stay away from these products and eat locally grown organic food as often as possible. That leaves us with filtering  or treating your water supply, which is covered next.

6. Water treatments that don’t remove fluoride:

Stand alone water filter pitchers like Brita and Pur are good for removing chlorine and other organic critters from your water, but do not remove fluoride. Water softener systems like the ones offered by Culligan do nothing about fluoride removal either.

7. Water treatments that do remove fluoride:

Reverse Osmosis Fluoride Filter Systems will remove 80-90% of fluoride, and at this time are recommended as a way to remove fluoride from water. The big problem though, is that it also takes all the essential minerals out of the water as well. You will need to add minerals back into the water, or it will take what minerals it needs out of your body to reach the correct ph balance that was when present before treatment. Another issue is that it takes anywhere from 2 to 10 gallons of water to make one gallon of treated water using a reverse osmosis system.  Aside from these shortfalls, as well as the costs that can be incurred installing an RO system if you are not careful, reverse osmosis systems are still one of the better ways of removing fluoride from your water supply.

Water Ionizers will reduce fluoride, but are not recommended for a variety of reasons. One of the reasons is the same as with water treated with reverse osmosis. and that is it creates de-mineralized water. Ionizers use a lot of electricity, and a lot of ionizing systems are sold via MLM programs, which inherently results in elevated prices.

Water distillation is another treatment method that is not recommended. It will remove about 55 to 60% of the fluoride in water, but again, it causes a lot of problems with leaching minerals from your body. Also, if you buy distilled water in a plastic container, you are taking a risk of the BPA’s and other chemicals in the plastic leaching out into the water, especially if the water is stored warm for any extended length of time. Another problem is Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC’s) are not removed, and can actually be compounded. VOC’s are to be avoided as much as possible.

There is one positive thing to be said about de-mineralized water, though. It is good for detoxification of the body. In an effort to reach the correct ph level, the water will pull impurities and excess metals and mineral buildups from your body. Problem is, if you don’t stop after a week or so, the water will start taking what it need from your body, and you become the water filter.

Activated Alumina Fluoride Filter Systems are my recommended way of removing fluoride from drinking water. Berkey gravity fed water filter systems have a PF2 add on filter element containing high-grade activated alumina which is reported to remove 95 to 99% of fluoride as well as remove toxic levels of arsenic from your water. The only drawback is they are mainly for drinking and cooking water. They are great to take along while camping or if caught in an emergency situation and you need clean filtered water.

The best way to achieve fluoride free water is to quit adding to our water supplies in the first place!!!
